1. What’s the same across the whole lineup (so you can stop comparing it)

Every OutEquipPro air conditioner uses a variable-speed DC compressor, runs from a battery bank rather than an alternator or a charger, and — on 12V — needs a LiFePO4 bank with a 100A-continuous BMS. Those three facts don’t change from model to model, so they aren’t reasons to pick one over another.

  • Variable-speed DC compressor. The compressor ramps up and down with demand instead of slamming on at full power. That’s why none of these units needs a soft-start device and why Eco and Sleep draws sit so far below Turbo. Even the Glacier Pro 110V — which takes shore or household AC as its input — uses the same variable-speed DC compressor design internally.
  • Battery-bank architecture. The bank powers the unit; alternator, solar, and shore chargers refill the bank. A starter battery is never the supply. The wiring guide explains why.
  • 100A-continuous BMS on 12V. A standard 50A BMS trips on a Turbo start. Our own batteries are built around this — the 230Ah runs a 200A continuous BMS, the 460Ah and 630Ah Smart Power Hubs 300A.
  • 6 AWG cable and 100A overcurrent protection on every 12V unit (8 AWG / 80A on the 24V Summit 2; 8 AWG / 50A on 48V; 12 AWG / 20A on the Glacier Pro 110V).
  • Pre-charged. Every current model ships charged and sealed; there’s no refrigerant work at install.
  • Warranty and certification. One year standard on the air conditioner, with a $95 extended-warranty option available within 30 days of delivery; batteries carry five years. All models are FCC, CE, RoHS, and CEC listed.

2. The six-question chooser

Answer these in order — each one eliminates models, and by the fourth you’re usually down to one.

Q1 — How much cooling does the space actually need?

A van, a Class B, or a well-insulated trailer up to the low 20s in feet is 10,000 BTU territory (Summit 2, Summit Flex). A long or poorly insulated rig, a skoolie, a semi sleeper baking in the sun, or a hot-climate full-timer wants the headroom of 12,500–13,500 BTU (Skyeline, Summit 3) — or 15,000 BTU on shore power (Glacier Pro 110V). The BTU sizing guide walks the math; the large-rig guide covers zoning two units.

Q2 — What voltage is your bank?

Most builds are 12V, and every model runs on it. If you’re building 24V or 48V from scratch, the Summit 2 is the model with native 24V and 48V variants — and it’s a genuine upgrade there, not a compromise: 11,000 BTU on either, with Turbo draw falling to 35A (24V) or 18A (48V) and lighter 8 AWG cable. Shore-power rigs that camp plugged in or run a generator can look at the Glacier Pro 110V. Voltage is a fit question, never a better/worse question — the voltage guide sorts it out.

Q3 — Where can the unit physically go?

  • A standard 14 × 14 in roof opening with 15 in of clearance above → Summit 2, Summit 3, or Glacier Pro (the Summit 2 fits a 14.1 × 10.3 to 16.5 × 15.7 in opening; the Summit 3 and Glacier Pro need 14.1 × 13.7 in minimum).
  • A roof full of solar, or a stealth build → Skyeline (the indoor head goes on a wall, the outdoor unit on the rear door, roof, or under the chassis) or Skyeline UM (everything under the chassis, ducted inside).
  • No roof option at all, but a wall or rear door → Summit Flex, which mounts flat on a roof or upright on a wall — never sideways, never on a slope.

Q4 — Do you need heat from the same unit?

Only the Glacier Pro heats: a reverse-cycle heat pump rated 8,500 BTU on 12V (12,000 BTU on 110V) that works down to about 36°F outside and throttles itself below that. Every other model is cooling-only, and the honest answer for real cold is the same for all of them — the 5 kW diesel heater ($349), which is what we’d pair with any unit for freezing nights. Q5 — How much weight can the roof (or wall) carry, and how low must the profile be?

The Summit 2 and Summit Flex are the lightweights at ~45 lb; the Summit 2 is also the lowest rooftop profile in the range at 6.3 in tall. The Glacier Pro (~68 lb, 7.1 in) and Summit 3 (~72 lb, 7.5 in) are larger units that want a solid roof. A thin cargo-trailer roof needs an interior support frame under any of them. The split and under-mount units put their heaviest component (52–56 lb) somewhere other than overhead.

Summit 2 — the default for most vans and RVs

Buy the Summit 2 if you have a standard roof opening, a 12V bank, and a space that 10,000 BTU covers — it’s the lightest, lowest-profile, and least expensive rooftop unit in the range. 10,000 BTU (11,000 on 24V/48V), 58A Turbo / 29A Eco / 21A Sleep, 40 dB in Sleep, ~45 lb, 6.3 in tall, 63–86°F thermostat range, 14 ft 6 AWG cord with the 100A fuse fitted. On our own batteries it runs roughly 7–8 hours of Eco cooling on the 230Ah, 14–16 on the 460Ah, and 19+ on the 630Ah. Rooftop only — it has no wall option. Its low-voltage cutoff is adjustable from the remote (11.0–11.5V is the lithium setting). Since 2026 it ships with a one-piece mounting plate. It’s the one we’d put on most rigs.

Summit 3 — maximum 12V cooling

Buy the Summit 3 if 10,000 BTU won’t hold your space on the hottest days — it’s the most powerful 12V rooftop we make at 13,500 BTU, with dual condenser fans. 33–62A current range, 45 / 55 / 65 dB, ~72 lb, 7.5 in tall, a 20 ft 6 AWG cord, 100A fuse, 9–11.5V low-voltage protection. It fits the same 14.1 × 14.1 in opening class (minimum 14.1 × 13.7 in) but its indoor trim is a wide 28.7 × 22.8 in ceiling footprint. Cooling-only. Summit Flex — the same performance, on a wall

Buy the Summit Flex if the roof is spoken for and a wall or rear door isn’t — it delivers exactly the Summit 2’s 12V numbers from an all-in-one outdoor unit and a slim indoor panel that’s only an air duct with the controls. 10,000 BTU, 58 / 29 / 21A, 40 / 48 / 53 dB, ~45 lb (43 lb outdoor unit + 2 lb panel). Mount it flat on a roof or upright on a wall; it cannot run on its side or at an in-between angle, because compressor lubrication and condensate drainage depend on those two orientations. The wall cutout is a compact 14 × 7 in minimum; the roof orientation uses the Summit 2’s 14.1 × 10.3 in. It’s currently a 12V product; a 24V version is planned but has no confirmed date.

Glacier Pro — the one with a heat pump

Buy the Glacier Pro if you want cooling and heating from a single rooftop unit — it’s the only model with a reverse-cycle heat pump. 12V: 11,500 BTU cooling / 8,500 BTU heating, 62 / 30 / 22A cooling, heating draw variable up to 55A, 43 / 50 / 58 dB, ~68 lb, 7.1 in tall. 110V: 15,000 BTU cooling / 12,000 BTU heating on shore or generator power at just 11A Turbo. The heat pump is efficient but has a hard floor: it stops heating effectively below 36°F, so it’s a shoulder-season heater, not a winter furnace. Roof thickness is capped at 2.9 in on this model (the Summit family accepts 1.5–3.5 in). Availability: every 12V variant showed sold out on the day of writing; the 110V was listed from $1,186.

Skyeline — the quiet, roof-free mini-split

Buy the Skyeline if the roof belongs to solar, you want a stealth profile, or quiet matters most — it’s 12,500 BTU with the compressor outside the cabin and just 35 dB on its lowest setting. The 21 lb indoor head (25.1 × 7.5 × 13.1 in) mounts on an interior wall; the 52 lb outdoor unit (18.2 × 9.1 × 33.5 in, dual condenser fans) mounts vertically on the rear of the van or horizontally on the roof or under the chassis. 18–62A range (about 18–25A once it’s maintaining), 650 m³/h airflow, 100A overcurrent protection, 6 AWG 10.5 ft cord, 10 ft signal cord. It ships pre-charged with 8 ft high- and low-pressure lines; an 18 ft upgrade set is available for longer runs. Skyeline UM — new: nothing on the roof, no wall-mounted head

Consider the Skyeline UM if you want the roof untouched and no wall-mounted head — it’s a 12,000 BTU under-chassis outdoor unit paired with a ducted indoor evaporator and a small wall control panel, listed at $1,095 and in stock. As listed on its product page: 65A rated current, 750 W rated power, a 56.2 lb galvanized-steel outdoor unit (27.5 × 18.7 × 6.1 in) and a 13.2 lb indoor unit (15.9 × 12.2 × 5.6 in) with four round outlets, 9.8 ft refrigerant lines, 8.8 ft signal cable, a 6 AWG 8.2 ft cord with the 100A fuse fitted, factory-charged and sealed, and a recommended bank of 230Ah minimum / 460Ah. Ducting and register vents are not included, so budget for a ducted interior. It is a different product from the wall-mount Skyeline (12,500 BTU) — don’t mix up the two. 4. Runtime: the lineup on our own batteries

Runtime is decided by the battery, not the model — the models mostly differ in how hard they pull in Turbo. Two anchors from our spec data: a Summit 2 12V in Eco runs about 7–8 hours on the 230Ah Standard Edition, 14–16 hours on the 460Ah Smart Power Hub, and 19+ hours on the 630Ah. A Skyeline in Eco (~20A) runs roughly 8–10 hours on a 200Ah-class bank and 16–20 on 400Ah — and about 3 hours flat-out in Turbo on 200Ah. 5. Honest limits

Two things this chooser can’t do.

  • It can’t give you winter heat from a cooling unit. Only the Glacier Pro heats, and only above ~36°F. For real cold, the diesel heater is the answer — for every model, including the Glacier Pro.
  • It can’t size your battery for you. Every unit here will run down an undersized bank. Plan the bank from the Turbo draw and the BMS rating, then the hours you want — not the other way round.
