Note: Most starter batteries can’t handle the continuous 58A (@12V) draw in Turbo mode. Use a LiFePO₄ battery with a 100A+ BMS or a 1000W+ AC-to-DC converter connected to your power station’s AC output for stable voltage and reliable, worry-free comfort.

My summer ride is a 1985 Volkswagon Vanagon Westfalia camper. I live on the east coast of Canada and have traveled out to Vancouver and across the United States. My biggest challenge has always been the lack of air conditioning. There aren’t many options for an older vehicle that doesn’t have factory AC.
After suffering in the heat for several years I finally came across the OutEquipPro 12Volt unit. The reviews were good, but as an older, retired guy, I had lots of questions. I sent an email one evening and was surprised to find a response in my in-box the very next morning! I went back and forth a few times and after all my questions were answered I felt comfortable ordering the unit which arrived quickly.
In the meantime I ran across an incredible YouTube video by VW Jawbreaker that showed how to install the OutEquipPro AC in an old VW bus. That really helped a lot with my install. I already had a solar system in my van, but added a dc to dc charger.
I must say I am totally blown away at how my OutEquipPro AC unit is working. It cools down my Vanagon easily, while driving or parked, and is very efficient in terms of power draw. The heater functions nicely too, although I haven’t used it as much as the AC.
I really like the low profile of the roof top component. Unlike the boxy style of other AC units, the OutEquipPro is streamlined and looks like it belongs on the Vanagon.
I am impressed with everything about the OutEquipPro 12V air conditioner. But what really swung the deal for me was the quick, professional and courteous responses I got from OutEquipPro. I prefer to buy products from companies either in Canada or from our good friends in the United States and I know if I ever have issues, concerns or questions, the folks from OutEquipPro will be there for me.
If you have an older VW camper or any other campervan, I would highly recommend the OutEquipPro 12V AC system. My Vanagon is one of the coolest rigs on the road, but it is now a lot cooler thanks to OutEquipPro!

I have a 2022 Thor Tellaro 20A, recently upgraded my two 100Ah AGM batteries to two 320Ah lithium ion phosphate batteries, and replaced the 110v ac air conditioner with OutEquip 12v DC low profile air conditioner with heating. I am very happy with this A/C unit and like to share something with you.
1. The low profile does not only lower the van height, but also makes the van looking better outside and inside , see the pictures.
2. It’s much quieter than the old unit. The fan speed is from 0 to 5, while the old one only has two speeds and it’s loud even using low speed.
3. It draws power from ~15 to 49 amp, depending on the mode (sleeping, eco, and turbo). Now we can use the unit during boondocks in cold or hot weather.
4. Multiple control interfaces, using the app via Bluetooth, remote control, and directly on the indoor panel. This makes the user very convenient.
5. The installation was very straightforward following the installation instructions. I route the 6 AWG cable through returning air duct, between the ceiling and roof, and then go through the space by the passenger side rear door, see the red line on one of the pictures.
Very easy to install compact design and low wattage drain is top notch.
Ice cold and kinda quiet.
I🤫 installed in a 1999 Ram Van. It is perfect for one and maybe a cat...
From start to finish prep work and install total 8 hours.
I first started by moving my existing 3 ea 100watt solar panels out of the way. Then removing my fan unit from the 14”x14” cutout cleaning area around cutout for mounting gasket. I then rerouted the power cable to be installed through the inside of unit. It was easier than expected to do this and went smoothly. Once I got the unit on top of van leaving it in the box to move up the latter without scratches I placed the 14”x14” gasket in place and caulked around lower edges.
Placed unit in cutout with ease of alignment. It was a bit of work to rout my cables with existing interior sealing in place but carefully completed that. Probably in the end that’s what took the longest time. Happy to say everything went well with following the manual and watching a few installs on youtube planing ahead for each step to take while installing. I also was able to mount my existing solar panels forward of the AC unit leaving plenty of room for the unit to keep cool while running.
We recently replaced our rear Maxxair fan on our 2015 Ram ProMaster 159.
We used the existing 14x14 hole in the roof.
There are several options for installing the two 6 gauge power wires for the unit.
We chose to run the power cord through the A/C unit, to avoid putting another hole in our roof.
We were able to successfully run the wires through the unit, and across our finished ceiling down to our battery bank.
We have a 400 AH lithium bank, 400 watts of solar on the roof and a 40 AH DC/DC charger.
So far, the air conditioner is extremely efficient, quiet
and effective at cooling.
I have done some cooler weather testing with the heater.
It is effective at heating the rear portion of the van.
It is not recommended for a primary source of heat.
Pros and cons:
Outequip pro 10,000 Btu AC w/heater
Pros:
-Price, less than $800.00 w/ heater. (With discount codes and rebates).
-Easy install, fits current 14x14 standard rooftop openings.
-Ability to re-route power cord through existing opening, avoiding unnecessary holes in roof.
-Sleek, small, lightweight, low profile design.
-Low amp draw, high output variable compressor.
-Heating and air conditioning in one unit.
10,000 btu AC, 4500 Btu (supplemental) heater.
-Quiet unit, low decibel rated.
-Good customer service.
-Highly rated, great reviews.
-Many online reviews and installation videos for reference.
Cons:
-Larger battery bank needed. Personal recommendation minimum is 400 AH lithium battery bank.
-External gasket could be better.
-Installation instructions and guide materials are vague. Better to watch YouTube videos to see installation instructions.
-Some customization may be required. I.e. buying longer screws, cutting screws that are too long, etc.
-Remote control could be better, unnecessary buttons for other models.
-No App/bluetooth capability.
-Loud beep when switching modes, no volume control.
-No light button on control panel, no adjusting light level.
Things I would like to see on next generation models:
-App/bluetooth capabilities.
-Better remote. More specific to purchased unit. No unnecessary buttons for other products.
-Light button on control board, ability to have lighting modes, I.e. low, medium, high.
-Volume control for switching modes, beep is currently loud. Would like to see a silent mode.
Summary:
Personal current rating: 9.6 excellent
So far, highly recommended.

Hi Greg,
Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed, thoughtful, and balanced review of your OutEquipPro 10,000 BTU A/C with heater.
We’re thrilled to hear that you’re happy with the cooling and heating performance, as well as the low noise level and efficiency. Below are a few notes and clarifications on the points you mentioned:
Gasket Design
Each unit comes with a pre-cut 14×14 inch square gasket for standard rooftop openings, plus an additional extended gasket for larger or customized openings. This setup helps ensure flexibility for different opening.
Installation Guide & Video
We provide a printed installation manual in the box, and a full installation video is available on our website. You can also contact our support team anytime for a direct link or step-by-step guidance.

Screw Length Adjustment
If your installation requires longer screws, we offer an extension kit that can be purchased separately. The link:https://outequippro.com/products/summit-2-rooftop-ac-extension-kit?_pos=2&_psq=kit&_ss=e&_v=1.0
Remote Control Features
Each function on the remote is active and included to accommodate various user preferences and regional configurations.
Bluetooth Control (Optional Upgrade)
Our current standard units do not include Bluetooth connectivity. However, we do offer an optional Bluetooth control board, which can be purchased and installed to enable app-based control.
Beep Sound When Switching Modes
The beep is an intentional safety confirmation sound indicating that a remote command has been received. If you’d like to lower the volume, you can gently cover the small black buzzer on the indoor control panel with tape or foam — this reduces the sound level without affecting performance.
Control Panel Lighting
You can toggle the LED panel light using the “Light” button on your remote. To turn the display screen lighting on or off, use the “LED” key — it switches the indoor display illumination.
We truly appreciate your suggestion list — your ideas about app integration, lighting adjustment, and sound control are all being shared with our engineering team for future model improvements.
Thank you again for being part of the OutEquipPro community and for your great contribution. We’re so glad your installation went smoothly and that you’re sharing your experience with others.
